Northwestern University Center for Synthetic Biology

As a partner, Northwestern University's Center for Synthetic Biology commits to the Children’s Environmental Health Collaborative and the Partnership for a Lead-Free Future to protect children from the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation.

As part of their contribution to the Collaborative and the Partnership, they are committed to the following activities:

  1. Contribute research on water insecurity and water quality, with particular focus on tap water, and share our findings through publications, educational resources, and accessible tools for identifying and addressing lead contamination;
  2. Provide technical assistance on environmental health, including our innovative lead-detecting biosensor technology designed to be affordable and user-friendly for home testing, along with equipment and expertise for communities with limited resources;
  3. Participate in collaborative meetings, workshops, and strategy sessions with partner organizations, engage with policymakers to strengthen regulations around lead testing and remediation in water systems, and promote coherent approaches to protecting children's environmental health.
